I first read about this flat iron in Good Housekeeping magazine. They claimed that it performed at 100% in all of their testing. They put hair samples in a humidity controlled room for 15 hours and measured the frizz among samples treated with frizz serum and a regular flat iron and this iron with no product. This product by itself won by far. That was quite impressive so I decdided to give it a try. I bought mine at Target for $49.99.
First, let me say that I have very fine textured hair that is a little below my shoulders so it is pretty easy to straighten with any flat iron. My trouble has been that after an hour (even with product & hairspray) it will become wavy again. There was definitely a noticeable difference using this tool. My hair did not frizz and stayed much straighter for a longer periid of time.
Also worth noting, it heats up in about 60 seconds and beeps to let you know it has reached the desired setting. You have to hold the power button down for a few seconds to turn it off which is helpful because I was always accidentally hitting it while straightening my hair on my old iron. Another plus, the heating plate rocks so that you don’t snag pieces of your hair.

The Remington flat iron has outdone all the flat irons I have used in the past from Hot Tools to Solia (equivalent to Chi or Sedu). Along with the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, this one gets my approval too!
It left my hair frizz free even in many days worth of rain and high winds. My hair also feels smooth and soft 3 days after ironing it. I would recommend you use an anti-frizz treatment (I use John-Frieda) since you will be heating the cuticles of your hair. But overall this one definetly is a keeper and well worth more than the $50 being paid for.

I have pretty curly hair but I thought I would give this a try after seeing the reviews in Good Housekeeping (got the seal of approval). I had trouble finding it b/c everyone was sold out of it but I got it today and so far I love it. I straightened all of my hair in less than 10 minutes from being curly. I must add that I was in the steamy bathroom while my shower was running and it did not phase my hair. I gets supper hot, I love the digital display, and the power off function is great so you don’t turn it off by mistake. It also gets hot really fast-almost immediately. I think it is certainly worth the $50; especially considering the Chi is $100+.

This is a great product. I like to straighten my hair every once in a while, but if there is just the slightest bit of humidity all my work is for nothing because my hair will curl and frizz. However, when I used the Remington S9951, my hair stayed straight and no frizz. I also gave the Remington S9951 a true test…I straightened my sister’s hair for a boat trip and her hair held up very well. No frizz and no curl. A couple of down sides 1. – it’s only a 1 inch base, and I would rather a 2″ since I have long curly hair; but I am willing to work with the 1″. 2. – the temperature control button is located exactly where your fingers rest while in use, but there is a locking feature that you can use to lock in the desired temp. I think its a great product and I’m glad I purchased it.

As the mother of two daughters with beautiful, strong, and VERY kinky curly hair that reverts within moments of being pressed with a straightening comb – I am AMAZED at how well the Remington Shine Therapy flat iron straightened their hair with NO ADDITIONAL PRODUCT used.
Their hair is now just as straight as it would be if I used a relaxer. No lie.
Shiny. Soft. And it lasts for a week. Even after the week, still manageable and combable.
This iron changed our lives for the better.
Seriously.
I’d give it 10 stars if I could.
