   I’ve tried this type of product before from a couple of other brands, but they always left my lashes clumpy and spider-like once my mascara was on, even though I followed the directions for use. Not so with this. This product from Lancome does exactly what it says- it gives extra length and thickness, if applied before mascara. Now, a disclaimer- I am very blessed to already have curled-up, thick, long and plentiful lashes naturally. But they are dark blonde at the roots and light at the tips, so I cannot skip mascara. I apply this, wait about a minute so that this can dry, then apply my mascara. I use it with Defincils and it’s beautiful- it almost looks like I have false eyelashes on, that’s how powerful it is. But as my mother says “It looks like false eyelashes in a GOOD way.” No, it’s not an “essential” for me, but I do love the extra drama it creates (I like a fully made-up face). I only need one coat of well-applied mascara after using this to get crazy-full and crazy-long lashes.

   My mom, who has shorter, finer and stubbier lashes, considers this a must-have in her makeup collection. It is NOT as dramatic a look on her, I have to say, but that is fine. It just makes her look like she has better eyelashes than she really does. She is older and doesn’t wear a huge amount of makeup, and it would look strange on her to have that false-eyelash thing going on. It adapts to the individual’s eyelashes and look, interestingly.

   This is the first time I’ve tried any kind of mascara primer before, and I was impressed. It’s a little weird putting this stuff on at first because it gives your lashes a nasty whitish tint, but it really does wonders defining and lengthening lashes. I’ve tried using it with several different mascaras, and I definitely noticed a difference. I probably won’t use this product every day, but when I’m getting ready for a night on the town and really want my eyes to pop, this is a great product to have on hand.
